Summer, Fall, Winter & Spring: Most people don’t think of Biddeford as a city with a growing arts movement. The images that come to mind often entail mills and empty, abandon buildings but, there is something going on in this neck of the woods and you just might be surprised. With the renovation of the City Theater, which is absolutely breathtaking both from an architectural stand point and a historic perspective there seems to be movement toward a new art scene. This opera house was designed by the famous John Calvin Stevens and is host to many highly acclaimed stage productions of music, theater and dance events. With this as the focal point there has been a fair share of galleries and shops that have popped up throughout town. There are plenty of scheduled events revolving around the arts. “Milling About” is a great event and a great way to sample a taste of what Biddeford has to offer for arts, food and music. These events are scheduled on a regular basis and are usually well attended. Biddeford also has its own Art Walk where all the galleries participating are open and people can come in and browse through each gallery. Along with having a thriving arts scene Biddeford also is making good use of its empty space by attracting unique shops and creative restaurants such as Bebe Burrito that you should check out while in town. Give Biddeford a chance to show you what it’s all about, you may be surprised by what it has to offer!
