Summer: Rock climbing is a sport of skill, thrills and strength. Fearless climbers look up the face of a mountain with the knowledge that only a rope keeps them out of harm’s way. If you are a thrill seeker looking for the best places to climb in Maine, here are some great spots around the state to check out. In Camden, you will find The Verticals which close to Barrett Cove. This is an 80 ft. cliff that can be accessed through a hiking trail from the parking lot at the base of the mountain. This climb is considered to be mid level in difficulty and the view from the top is panoramic of Megunticook Lake. Another great climb is Shag Crag in Bethel. If you are into sport climbing this is the place for you with over 25 different routes to choose from. Jockey Cap in Fryeburg is a great place to practice your skills. Of course, there are always the bigger mountains in Acadia and Mt. Katahdin but, if you are looking for some smaller less known venues you may want to check these out.
