Whether they grassroot racing teams held at one of the local lakes and ponds or formal racing circuits, folks from Maine just seem to love it. The sport of snowcross snowmobile racing is a cross between stock-car racing and your typical fun-run road races. The Rock Maple Racing Team races the Maine circuit as well as throughout New England. Annually they race at the Skowhegan Fairgrounds which is a great place to watch these thrilling races. The facility is a covered grandstand with over 5000 seats and heat which is a must during these cold months. With some of the newest machinery on the market, these racing teams perform for the crowd. You can feel the excitement in the air as the racing start to line up across the track. There seems to be almost a cult following similar to Nascar and the fans make themselves known by the cheers as the racers cross the finish lines. Many of these racers grew up in Maine riding the backwoods field stretching their comfort level with speeds that often hit well over 100 miles per hour.
